The goal of 1UP is to level up your Portuguese by gamifying the learning of the language; after all, everyone first learns through play.
One of the fastest ways to learn a new language is through total immersion. Living in the United States, surrounded by English, I turned to simulated immersion of Portuguese through one of my favorite mediums of storytelling - video games - and learned much of the language in doing so. Gaming in a second language mimics the same association that the brain makes between memory and smell - under the guise of fun, incentivized play. For instance, I’ll never forget the verb "derreter" after having to defeat a dragon by "melting" it in hot lava. Whether you're a gamer or not, I’ll help you level up your grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through the same spirit and power of play.
